Flaggots Ohio perform at San Diego Pride 2005!

The Flaggots want to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to EVERYBODY who in any way helped us realize our California Dreamin' this year! It all began as a crazy idea to pack up 30-odd queers of all shapes, sizes, and genders and ship them across a continent to celebrate Pride on the West Coast....and it ended up making memories to last a lifetime! HIGHLIGHTS:

- Flaggots Ohio wins "Most Outrageous Marching Float", 1 of 8 awards for the 219 entries in the San Diego Pride Parade! See our Purple Plaque!

- A picture of Darrin Hunter (caption: "member of a flag-waving troupe from Ohio") performing in the parade appeared in the San Diego Tribune on Sunday, July 31.

- FO's first Encore demand from crowd and MC at the SD Festival on Saturday after "Proud" and "True Colors". We then performed "All Things".

- New heights in bonding / quality time with fellow FO performers/support...Luv ya Room 212!

LESSONS LEARNED:

- Make sure the generator is NEW and in proper working order / tested prior to close of business on Friday before a parade. Someone loves us upstairs big-time because our almost silent march at right shoulder from a faulty generator was instead blessed with loud uncrackling music just as we stepped off at 11:10am in the parade and stayed loud and PROUD the entire route. <whew!>

- Let SECURITY handle line cutters when waiting in a LONG line entering a gay establishment. It's easier on the noggin'...!

- Make sure the gentleman you hand a $50 bill to in Tijuana is an employee of the bar when ordering a round of drinks. Mary Ann, we SURE could have used you and your Espanola that day!

- A zoo is a zoo, but a NUDE beach has natural beauty and wrinkly outfits too...not to mention stunning cliffs and great sunsets.

- Empowerment! Study your maps when traveling so you know where to go when walking or driving back to your hotel.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL AT PRIDE NIGHT AT KING'S ISLAND! If you want to go, but don't feel like making the trip, why not RIDE THE FLAGGOTS BUS INSTEAD?! ...
