Flaggots appear at 2005 San Diego Pride!

27 JUL 2005

The Flaggots Ohio are currently representing the Ohio Valley at the San Diego Pride Festival! The Festival is in its 31st year and promises more than 200 parade entries. Based on previous figures, this year's project attendance is 150,000 people!

Flaggots Director Matt Eisert says, "They are going to EAT US UP out there!"  After joining the ranks of Chicago's ROTC (Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corp) to perform in San Diego's 2003 Parade and Festival, Eisert says "San Diego has one of THE BEST Pride Festivals around...and I've been around!  ;)  "  Chicago took 'Best Out of Town Unit' in the parade that year and Eisert has hopes for Flaggots Ohio to follow suite with their own "Flag-tabulous" flair.

"These guys and gals work hard and it shows."  In 2004, FO was flooded with membership inquiries and performance requests after every performance.  After watching the videos from Columbus' Home Town event, Eisert knew they were ready to try their wings beyond the Buckeye State.  "I had my 'moment in time' when I marched around the country in the '86 Madison Scouts.  Joe Bowman helped Eisert create Flaggots Ohio 4 yrs ago to not only promote the sport of Color Guard in their community, but to open doors for some who have always wanted to try the activity, but never had the means.

"Last fall, seeing Deb Freitag (50 years young!) performing on stage only 9 months after picking up a flag pole for the first time in her life, while Queer-Eye Theme songstress Simone Denny sang 'All Things', makes every effort worthwhile.  The flight to San Diego will be like returning home to some members of Flaggots Ohio...to some of our other members, California will be the dream of a lifetime!"

A GIANT, FLAG-TABULOUS THANK YOU to everyone who helped us make this trip possible!

We couldn't have managed it without the support of our community of friends and sponsors...stay tuned for details of our adventures!
